The Irish Protestant Benevolent Society was established in 1856. To date in partnership with S.T. Patricks Society and other's helped Being Irish O'Quebec which was produced by the McCord Museum. Bernadette Short came to Montreal from her native Dublin in early 1974 and soon became involved in teaching the Irish step dances she had learned while growing up. Montreal Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) was established in 1948 to promote Ireland's two national sports - Gaelic Football and Hurling - to the community of Montreal.
